Patriotic education of young people at the university (by the students’ survey results of Derzhavin Tambov State University)

Background. Тhe image of the Motherland is a necessary element of the spiritual life of each individual, the basis of his culture, mentality and, ultimately, social behavior. The purpose of the study is to comprehend the phenomenon of the image of the Motherland in the context of studying the collective opinions of Russian student youth using the example of Tambov. Materials and methods. In 2022, a questionnaire survey of full-time students of Derzhavin Tambov State University (n = 352) studying full-time was conducted. Results. The results of the study showed that the image of the Motherland and the spiritual image of the native land act as significant value orientations for the youth of the Russian province and correspond to the historical and socio-cultural memory of Tambov region; significant components of the image of the Motherland for students of Derzhavin Tambov State University were: “childhood memories”, “images of national heroes”, “the image of something that one should be proud”, “images and pictures in history books”, “the image of a mother”. In the collective consciousness of students, a cautious attitude to the spiritual values of other cultures prevails, the priority values of the youth of the province, as before, are “the health of loved ones”, “their own health”, “love”. Conclusions. Effective mechanisms of patriotic education of the younger generation of the Russian Federation still require their development, especially since a new historical challenge poses new sociocultural, moral, substantive and organizational tasks to the system of secondary and higher education.
